BUILDING INTERCULTURAL COMPETENCES: THE ROLE OF DIGITAL TECHNOLOGIES AND PROJECTS

One of the most important conditions in terms of education change is the searching of new teaching methods and creative implementation of new teaching ideas at school. To reach the goals, it is necessary to work in a new way, use new active methods such as the method of project. Creating projects is becoming more and more popular. For successful implementation of educational programs, we need to gain new knowledge about the project, its planning, organizing and improvement of its activities. The importance of fostering intercultural competence is highlighted in modern education theory and practice. According European Commission experts, the competence is essential to achieve the goals, will to learn for the whole life, to participate as a citizen in a public life, to seek an appropriate job. The next priority is the development of personal experience, which particularly important feature is its application purpose. Another importance is that such project method advantages as: the teaching becomes learning, the teacher – partner or consultant role appears; learning becomes personalized or individualized, it is possible to organize a comprehensive process of learning; student confidence is encouraged, an opportunity to reveal the personality is given; variety of information sources is used (books, encyclopedias, magazines, newspapers, CDs, Internet, ect.); the opportunity to study implementation of principles of democracy (to cooperate in solving the problems, learn to agree, to listen to another’s opinion, be tolerant, to understand the relationship between the individual and group); students’ attitude to school and the process of education changes, and it helps to achieve higher learning values and increases internal motivation.

The aim of program – to acquire new knowledge on the projects, its organizing, planning, the improvement of activity based on the usage of ICT and deepen professional and general competencies.
